Here's how you choose the "pawsome" custom background for your canine superstar magazine cover

We want this design to highlight your precious pooch's unique character and zest for life. We want it to be an image that makes you smile every time you walk by. It will be infused with love and memories that will last forever. So we have a ton of variety!

You can scroll below to see a slideshow of options, (click the numbers under the image to see each slide) or we can design a custom background especially for you. Does your doggo love the beach? Retrieving sticks from the lake? Taking flight after a Frisbee? We gotcha covered. We'll keep designing til we find the perfect scene.

If you see the background you want on the slideshow below, there will be a section called "special instructions" when you place your order where you can tell us which background you would like. We've given each of them a name to simplify things.

If you wish to have a background that is shown on one of our other examples, no worries! Just let us know which one (be specific, like "background from Roach & Roo with black dog washing dishes.")

If you can't decide, or you're not sure exactly what you would like, you just know you want it to be special, drop us a line! We'll help you decide and design a couple of options for you to choose from. It doesn't cost any extra, and there's no pressure to order if you change your mind. Spam drives us crazy, so we promise not to ever nag.

And we won't print anything until you say it's perfect. Like, ever. Guaranteed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use more than one pet in my cover image?

Sure! We might not be able to squeeze in every pet you've ever owned, but 3 is not unusual.

Can I just have my pet's name instead of making it look like a magazine cover?

Sure! Include this request in the "Special Instructions" box in your order and we'll put something special together for your approval.

How long will this take to get to my door?

As a general rule, we will typically have your first mockup proof ready within 48 hours. After that, much will depend on how quickly we are able to communicate with you to the point where you've approved your mockup proof. We operate on Mountain Time business hours. Dr Pepper Copperpot, our graphic artist, is a bit of a workaholic, so he checks his email often, even after hours. But he likes to go camping, so sometimes he is off the grid until Mondays.

After you approve your proof, it gets sent to print. The print team works their magic filling orders from Monday to Friday. Ordinarily, our shipping partners will fulfill orders within a day, sometimes two if they receive it late in the day.

Your package is shipped out as soon as it is ready. Mail times can be unpredictable during their busiest seasons, but the average is five to seven business days.

We guarantee your printed treasure will arrive safely, so be sure to open it right away and let us know if anything went wrong during the trip. If travel gremlins tampered with your goods and inflicted any sort of damage, we have a travel gremlin insurance policy. We'll make it right and get a new one out to you pronto.

If travel gremlins swipe your package (those little devils!) and it doesn't arrive within a couple of weeks after your approval, let us know and we'll try to track it down.

Can you do a cover for my pet crow? Gerbil? Cat?

We sure can! We'll be delighted to make your pet warthog/toad/zonky a cover star! We display mostly examples of sighthounds because our graphic artist Dr Pepper Copperpot (PhDs in roaching and squeaky stuffies) is a greyhound. He started out making covers for his friends as jokes. Dreaming up the articles that suited his buddies was his favorite way to rib them. Then their friends started asking if they could be on covers. The greyhound community borders on the likes of a cult, so word got around. Some of the greyhounds had cat friends and it sort of snowballed from there.

Where is my print coming from?

All of our products are designed with Canadian pride in Alberta, but we have facilities in both Canada and the US, and we are expanding. Australia is our next goal because our graphic artist Dr Pepper Copperpot is a retired racing greyhound who came from Melbourne to steal his humans' hearts. We only offer shipping within North America for now, but that means your artwork will be both printed and shipped at the facility closest to you.

What do I do after I place my order?

After you've placed your order, Dr Pepper Copperpot, our graphic artist, will get to work on making your pet a cover star. Depending on the quality of your photo, he'll work his electronic wizardry to optimize the image to look the best it can be. The better the image you upload, the faster this part will go.

If you've opted to include requests in the "Special Instructions" box on your order, he'll place the image of your pet onto a background of your choice. If you didn't choose one, he'll place them on a gradient color background. Then, he'll add the articles. If you've requested certain ones, he'll use those. If you didn't choose any in particular, he'll choose the articles that look like they would suit your pet best. You can always request something different when you receive your mockup proof for approval.

As for what you have to do? Just keep an eye out for our email. We want your cover to be exactly what you want, so that means you need to see what it will look like and make any necessary tweaks. We could just wing it and send it straight to print without you knowing what it will look like, but we don't want to risk it. We don't want you to open it up and be all excited, then wish we'd chosen a different color scheme or you find one of our article choices doesn't fit your pet. It might take a couple of extra days to get it just right, but when it arrives, we want to ensure it will be perfect.

How can I choose the best photo of my pet to ensure the quality of my cover is optimal?

Choosing the cover photo is the hardest part, we know! You have 3592 pictures of your pet on your phone and 3487 of them are your favorites!

Here are some things you can take into consideration so you can make the best choice:

1. Lighting is key. Photos taken outside or near a window will work best on a cover.

2. Poses matter. When you make your choice, consider how that pose will fit on your background. If you requested a background where the pup is relaxing with his head back in the tub and his eyes closed, the photo of him curled up on the couch with his paw over his nose might not be ideal.

3. Focus plays a role. If you are scanning an old printed photograph or are using a digital image from a phone camera circa 2012, the quality will not be optimal. Dr Pepper Copperpot can work some wizardry with technology, but a newer photo taken on one of today's cameras or phones will be more ideal.

If you're not sure, you can indicate your concern in the "Special Instructions" box of your order. If we don't think the image is a good choice for the enlargement process, we'll let you know right away, so keep an eye on your email. Either way, we won't print it until you approve it.

What if I don't like the background of the photo I provide?

No problem! Nearly everyone chooses to go with a different background than their original photo. We want to make it look like a cover shoot, right? And we want it to be customized perfectly for you and your pet.

So you have a couple of choices:

1. We can use a plain gradient background. There is an example with a couple of Italian Greyhound puppies amongst our examples on the Roach & Roo site. The magazine is called "Iggy Insider." You can choose gray or a different color or leave it up to us. We'll send you a proof for your approval.

2. We can use a background similar to the ones in almost any of the example covers on our site. Include your request in the "Special Instructions" box when you place your order. Be specific, like "Background similar to the dog washing dishes on the Roach & Roo cover."

3. We can go all in and design a background just for your fur baby based on her interests. Does she love the beach? Chasing a ball? Squeaky toys? Does she think she belongs on a throne? It doesn't cost any extra. We want to create a work of art that you will treasure forever.

Can I see a proof before I purchase?

Absolutely! In fact, we won't print your cover until you give us the go-ahead. We offer a lot of different options so you can customize your order to be the coolest conversation piece ever! If you're not sure what you want, we can make all those design decisions for you, but you'll need to approve it in the end.

I have more questions before I make a decision. Will you get back to me right away?

We'll do our very best to get back to you right away during Mountain Time business hours. If you're on the east coast and you send a question at 7am and it's 4am here, Dr Pepper Copperpot is still likely snoozing in roach position in his favorite bed. He checks his email often, though, so you might even hear back on a weekend or an evening.

What if none of the photos of my pet are high enough in quality to blow up to poster size?

Dr Pepper Copperpot, our graphic artist, can work some wild wizardry with technology, but some photos will not look great blown up to poster size.

There is one other option we can use, but it's not for everybody and it won't always work. Sometimes, especially if we're doing a cover for a beautiful senior pet or cherished pet who crossed over the Rainbow Bridge many years ago, their humans just don't have ideal photos. In those cases, we sometimes turn to artificial intelligence.

If your pet has very distinctive markings, it might be tricky, depending on whether you use a full-body image or just a headshot. Dr Pepper Copperpot has a huge album of photos that look just like him because he's a black greyhound and artificial intelligence can easily churn out dopplegangers of black greyhounds. If your pet is a mixed breed, or if she has distinctive spots, we might not be able to pull it off, but with a few touchups, we might get close. No matter what we'll do our best to get you the most optimal image for your cover.

What if I want to see what my order will look like before I part with any money?

We can totally understand that you might not want to make the investment if you're not absolutely certain your cover will turn out exactly the way you want. If you have questions before placing your order, we're happy to help!

If you want to ensure you've chosen an ideal photo, send it along to us and we'll tell you if we can work with it.

If you want to ensure your special requests can be met, send them along to us and we'll tell you if they are possible.

If you want to order a special background for your pet but that's too high a risk for you to pay in advance, no problem. We'll find you a background you're happy with and you can place your order from there.

What if I'm not happy with my order when I receive my mockup proof?

We are happy to tweak your order until you say it is perfect. Change the color of the heading, make a different background, use different article titles; we can tweak all of those. The mockup proofs will include a Roach & Roo watermark, but that will be removed before we print your cover.

If we make 500 tweaks and you're still not happy, we'll refund your money.
